Will a $400 PS3 Turn the Tide?

Today came the not-very-surprising announcement that Sony will be introducing a system that is basically a Blu-Ray player plus Hi-Def gaming system, without the bells and whistles of PS2 backwards-compatibility and multiple memory card reading. It still has Wi-Fi, Blu-Ray, free online play and a 40GB HD (making it cost less than a 360 arcade with comparable features), but tailors it more for a mid-level consumer entry model as the SDTV says goodbye and the HD era begins…

I bought a PS3 when I got a smokin’ deal (Best Buy had free 60GB Ps3s paired with with an on-sale Sony HDTV), and I think it is rather the bad-assed system. The interface is top-notch, the system plays video games, upscales DVDSs and plays Blu-Rays with equal aplomb. In fact, I barely touch my Wii after using this system, which also upscales my PS2 games admirably (but the 40GB model won’t be doing that…).

It is time to jump on board…
